Health Awareness Program in November 2008

Lifestyles diseases, respiratory infection including Pneumonia in children

Objective: To create health awareness through health talk. No of participants: 43

Don Bosco Ashalayam (DBA) in partnership with NHEC, WRWAB and Yamuna Clinic organised Health Awareness Programme on Lifestyles diseases, respiratory infection including Pneumonia in children at RZ-33B, Sitapuri, New Delhi, for the Burmese community. The programme was attended by 43 people. The health session was facilitated by Dr. Tint Swe from Yamuna Clinic. He is accompanied by his team to assist him during the medical check up.

The session was conduction by power point presentation. The session was translated in Mizo by Thang Kima, Community animator, DBA. The facilitator mentioned the different kinds of lifestyle diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, atherosclerosis, asthma, cancer, chronic liver disease or cirrhosis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, nephritis or chronic renal failure, osteoporosis, acne, stroke, depression and obesity.

The presentation includes:
The causes like diet, lifestyle, house, drug abuse, especially tobacco smoking and alcohol drinking, as well as the lack of exercise that led to such diseases.
Symptoms of the above mentioned diseases.

He also explained in detail Pneumonia in children, its causes and symptoms.
Medical check-up was given to the participants after the session.

Key Observations:
Few people came only for the medical check-up without attending the session.
Most the participants were those that were living in and around the area.
